As an educator, you have this power. You shape the future every day by engaging students in research and informed debate on topics that impact the world. As the next generation’s leaders, students have the potential to make unique contributions to society.
Their contributions will vary greatly, but will have one common result: they will foster change. Our goal is to provide you the educators with a tool set that will help initiate discussion about one of today’s most compelling topics — the ability to sustain the biosphere and the planet’s resources in a manner that will meet the needs of future generations.
To supplement your educational efforts, the Institute for Sustainable Communication is pleased to provide you a DVD of the Academy Award winning documentary, "An Inconvenient Truth" at no charge. We are making this singular offer to full -and part-time faculty members in New York State, who agree to use the DVD to support course research or classroom discussion on climate change and sustainability.
Improve stakeholder (young adults and academia) understanding of and responsiveness to the issues of climate change and sustainability.
Enable young adults to take ownership of and have an active voice in issues pertaining to environmental, social, economic and national stability.
Invest in training young adults in order to build a strong knowledge base of well-educated, well-prepared individuals who will be of great value and interest to hiring managers.
The Institute of Sustainable Communication understands that young adults have the greatest stake in our future. They are not only they the leaders of tomorrow, but they are also key consumers that will make daily decisions about technology, development, resource conservation and community equity.
By engaging young adults in discussions on climate change and sustainability, the REACH program hopes to inform the environmental, social and economic decision–making process of students who will inherit the world’s largest economy. There are conflicting and challenging messages about climate change and sustainability, but that is to be expected when a topic carries such great implications for humankind. Through the use of educational tools, we hope to correct common misconceptions and provide students with the information they need to develop informed and successful strategies in their coursework, careers, and daily lives.
Advance knowledge and learning in the interdisciplinary fields of environmental science, social science, communication, media business administration. Build and share research that improves an academic institution’s ability to contribute effective solutions to environmental, social and economic challenges. Promote the exchange of information and knowledge between students and educators of different fields of study, each of which addresses climate change sustainability from a unique point-of-view. Discuss the development of curricula and generate ideas for meeting the needs of the business communities who seek young leaders in sustainable business practices.
The Institute for Sustainable Communication (ISC) is a not-for-profit 501(c) 3 organization committedto educating and training the next generation of business leaders needed to grow innovative, sustainable enterprises that create jobs and wealth for communities.
